There are times when you require a skip where any less than twelve yards simply won’t be sufficient. Although it isn’t our biggest skip available from Britannia Skips, the 12-Yard skip could be just what you’re looking to use on your project. You may be looking for a 12-Yard Skip for sale, but often skips are only needed for specific jobs and tasks. We specialise in skip hire, whether you want a 12-yard skip or a 4-yard skip. To find out more about the former, read on.
The Best of Both
There’s no doubt that the 12-yard skip is a large skip, featuring at the end of our skip hire scale. It’s also one of the most common large skips you will see on construction sites. They are used regularly by commercial clients for bulky items and general construction waste, but they are also used for large domestic projects.
The Capacity of a 12-Yard Skip
A 12-Yard Skip is named so because the interior is 12 cubic yards. This is based on a width of 6 yards, referring to its solid, three-dimensional structure. As a result, the capacity of a 12-Yard skip is the equivalent of it holding between 160 and 180 bin bags. Although your construction waste won’t be as neat and tidy as that, it gives you a good idea to visualise when picturing the size of skip you need to hire.
12-Yard Skip Weight Restrictions
When you are wondering about what you can put in a 12-yard skip, it’s important to note that this size skip is too big to use for heavy materials such as earth or concrete, and is therefore best for large but bulky items. For this reason, there are weight restrictions on 12-yard skips, which is the same as those placed on both the 8-yard skips and 10-yard skips. For any of these larger skips, the overall weight should not exceed a total of 8 tonnes.
What a 12-Yard Skip is Used For
As you can see, it is not the weight restrictions that prevent you from using the skip for heavier matter, but a combination of this and the sheer size of it. For example, smaller skips have a lower maximum weight of between 2 to 6 tonnes, which is less than the highest weight for the 12-yard skip. This is why a 12-yard skip is mostly used for large, bulky items such as old furniture, plumbing fixtures, and so on.
